Otis Statum Jr.

Otis Statum Jr. was born and raised in the inner city of Oakland, CA while also living in the inner city of Richmond, CA during childhood. Throughout his journey, he faced many obstacles and had many opportunities. Growing up, he aspired to be a professional athlete “to make it out” whether that was in baseball, football, basketball, or track and field because of his desire to be a great role model and a leader in his community. Baseball was the sport he dedicated the most time to perfecting his craft.

In High School, Otis was one of the few baseball players ever to be drafted out of Bishop O’ Dowd (Oakland, CA) for the MLB Draft. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 39th round and received calls as early as the 4th round but had already decided to accept an academic and athletic scholarship to the University of Nevada, Reno. Otis understood the importance of education and how it can be a powerful tool for success, both on and off the field. After graduating with a BS from UNR, he soon after completed his MBA from Sonoma State University, where business finance became his passion. He is currently pursuing a career in finance and worked for several companies in the Bay Area. However, his passion for sports never faded away and he continues to be involved in athletics as a coach and mentor to young athletes in his community.

Today, Otis is a successful business executive, a dedicated mentor, and a proud member of his community who continues to make a positive impact on the lives of those around him. His journey is a testament to the power of hard work, perseverance, and education in achieving one's goals. Otis continues to inspire others through his work and hopes to help create more opportunities for young people to achieve their dreams and become leaders, both on and off the field.

Kendall Wallace

From an early age, Kendall Wallace, knew the importance of education and has made it her

personal mission to ensure she is well educated. Growing up, Wallace participated in numbers

programs directed towards mentoring young children like themselves for a successful academic

career and eventual future. Wallace ran track for ten years with the Nationally ranked,

Oakland-based youth track program, 3M Track Club. It was at this club that Wallace not only

traveled the country for various meets throughout the year but was also able to have various

mentors who helped her with her training and personally. It was through this program that

Wallace learned the importance of mentorship and guidance at a young age, and she has

carried this importance throughout the rest of her life.

Due to her participation in programs like 3M and the CCAC Debutante Program, Kendall is no

stranger to transitions. After bowing out of track in her sophomore year of High School, Kendall

turned her focus to the performing arts sector, a field she had also participated in and had a

great passion for her entire life. Now, as a senior at San Jose State who will be graduating with

a degree in Radio, Television, and Film this Spring 2024, Wallace is eager and ecstatic to help

give back to the community that ultimately helped raise and shape her into the person she is

today. Kendall hopes to help usher in a new generation of students the same way her mentors

once did for her.
